  5/5 - 5/7Planning Lean Layouts with SLP
This course will provide you with a step-by-step explanation of Systematic Layout Planning (SLP). On Day One you will learn this powerful and universal method. Working in teams on Day Two, you will use SLP to prepare and present a manufacturing plant layout. On Day Three, teams use SLP to prepare a detailed equipment layout for one department in the previous day’s plan. In the closing session, you will learn to organize and lead your next layout project using SLP.

5/20 - 5/222008 Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) Conference
The purpose of the Annual EPICS Conference is to bring together the community involved in integrating the educational needs for realistic design experiences with the technological needs of the local communities through service-learning. The conference format is designed to facilitate discussion and sharing of common experiences, best practices, assessment strategies, institutionalization successes and lessons learned that can be employed across campuses. The emphasis is on discussion and collaboration. There are no formal papers at the conference but abstracts are published and archived on the EPICS Website. The annual conference is made possible with funding from the National Science Foundation through a National Dissemination Grant and is one way that the EPICS Program disseminates information on its model for community-based design education.

5/20 - 5/22Design for Direct Digital Manufacturing 2008 Student Competition: Aftermarket Automotive Peripherals
Held in conjunction with the RAPID 2008 Conference & Exposition, the 2008 DDM Competition invites student designers to use their imagination to arrive at an innovative aftermarket automotive peripheral design, which exploits the geometric capabilities of DDM to the fullest. Any type of peripheral can be selected, such as external or internal. The design should be for a fully working prototype, so any internal electronics or mechanics must be specified and packaged within the product. The geometry of the design must be defined within a CAD system that is capable of producing robust STL files. (A CAD system is 3-D geometric modeling software capable of digitally defining the shape of a product.)

Entries are welcome from Category A: college/university students and Category B: high school students. The two categories will be judged separately.
