How does OnsiteOnline
work?
(example from Basic
Statistical Variation, ALT #4: Is a Kiss Just a
Kiss?)
Step
1: The activity and its goals are presented to students.
Overview
The purpose of this
ALT is to help you better understand the normal distribution
and its applications. You weigh the Kisses® in one
full bag and construct a histogram.
In this ALT, you work in a team to discover
that the distribution tends to be normal and that this
is a reasonable distribution for many processes.
After completing this ALT, you should
be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
- Collect, process, and display data
so that usable information is represented (Comp. 1).
- Prepare basic charts and graphs (Comp.
2).
- Make inferences based on data analysis
(Comp. 3).
- Apply measures of central tendency
and variability (Comp. 4).
Step
2: Students prepare for the activity by individually
completing pre-activity learning objects at OnsiteOnline.

Students
individually complete the pre-activity online.

One
learning object has students practicing how to create
histograms.
(Learning object from Wisconsin
Online Resource Center.)
Step
3: Students meet at their home sites to complete a facitator-guided
hands-on activity.
