| Overview
Every process must be evaluated in terms of its capability to produce
output that conforms to customer specifications. In this ALT, you
learn how attributes data, plotted on a c chart, can be used to
characterize the output of a process and predict its ability to
produce goods and services that meet the customers' needs and expectations.
You evaluate a box of bran with raisins using c charts to compare
their expectations, the producers' claims, and the actual variation.
After completeing this ALT, you should be able to demonstrate the
following competencies:
- Apply the concepts of "forms of variability" and "process
dominance" to the selection of an appropriate control technique
(Comp. 1).
- Acquire, analyze, and interpret data from a process to determine
if the process is in statistical control and capable of meeting
customer requirements (Comp. 2).
- Apply problem-solving techniques to the development of an improvement
plan for processes that are not in statistical control and/or
not capable of meeting customer requirements (Comp. 3).
Materials and Equipment
No materials or equipment are needed to complete the ALT.
Safety and Disposal
Food used in this ALT should not be eaten. One good way to dispose
of the cereal after the activity is to use it to feed the birds.
Pre-Activity
To prepare for the activity:
- Read Instruction Sheet: Right On, Raisin! in your Process
Control Participant Journal.
- Read an example of a c
chart.
Activity
In your team, perform the following steps to complete the activity:
- Your mediator will give you a box of raisin cereal. Do not shake
your box and do not eat the cereal. You will pour directly from
the box into a measuring cup, one cup at a time.
- Complete Instruction Sheet: Right On, Raisin!
Post-Activity
Your team should now post all of its results from the activity
to the Discussion Board.
Assignment
There are no instructions to prepare for Transfer Activity: Are
We Capable at Robotic Grippers, Inc.?
Assessment
Your facilitator may use Assessment Sheet: Right On, Raisin! to
evaluate your results from the activity and your posting to the
Discussion Board.
