Process Control - An Introduction

Printer-Friendly Version

Process Control introduces you to the basic concepts and tools of statistical process control (SPC). Rather than emphasizing the mathematical foundations of SPC, this module concentrates on the practical applications of statistical analysis in manufacturing.

You get hands-on experience through a series of exercises demonstrating process control principles, SPC tools, process capability analysis, and the pursuit of continuous improvement.

After completing this module, you should be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Apply the concepts of "forms of variability" and "process dominance" to the selection of an appropriate control technique (Comp. 1).
  • Acquire, analyze, and interpret the data from a process to determine if that process is in statistical control and capable of meeting customer requirements (Comp. 2).
  • Apply problem-solving techniques to the development of an improvement plan for processes that are not in statistical control and/or not capable of meeting customer requirements (Comp. 3).
